Bus Facts At-A-Glance

The C-SPAN Civics Bus is a 45-foot long mobile production studio and media demonstration center designed to bring civics education to schools and communities nationwide. The Civics Bus builds on the legacy of the C-SPAN School Buses, which have been on the road since 1993, informing students and teachers about the network's programming and its value as an educational resource.

  • The bus stops at a variety of locations -book festivals, educational conferences, community venues, civic organizations, museums, libraries, and city halls.
  • The bus is 8.5 feet wide, 13 feet tall, and 44,000 pounds.
  • The bus has 3 TV cameras - 2 robotically controlled and 1 handheld unit for off-bus interviews and video shoots.
  • With the state of the art television production and computer equipment on board, studio facilities, design elements and year round maintenance, the bus represents about a $1 million investment.
