ADJOURNMENT ADJOURNMENT is the formal end to a session of the House or Senate, or one of its committees. Adjournment may end a daily session, an annual session, or a 2-year Congress [see "sine die adjournment"].

A motion to adjourn can be offered with or without a date and time set for the return of the chamber or committee. A motion to adjourn is not debatable and is put to an immediate vote.
